Le Premier Jour

To be frank, the first day was... stressful. After landing in Paris, Jenn and I were extremely tired and confused about everything. I was well-warned, but the culture shock seriously kicked in the moment that we set foot in the Charles-de-Gaulle Aeroport. We were afraid of paying lots for our cab ride, because Paris basically shuts down on Sundays and anything that's open becomes super overpriced. Luckily, Jenn has unlimited data while abroad, so we were able to hail an Uber to get to our apartment. Our driver was really chill, and he had lived in Scotland for several years, so he had a really interesting and cute Scottish-French accent. Upon our arrival at 9 Cite Riverin, Frederic was there to give us a warm and friendly greeting. Our studio is old and small, but it's pretty cute, and we'll probably end up living here for our entire time here.

We realized that we needed to go out and buy a lot of necessities, but we were tired so we decided to go for a stroll around the neighborhood instead. We withdrew some money at BNP and ended up in the Marais, which is a very fashionable, South-Village/Soho-esque neighborhood near us. It would've been nice to walk around more, but we were tired and hungry so we just left. We wanted a quick bite to eat, but Parisiens aren't really into the take-out food culture, so everyone eats really lengthy and slow meals at cafes. We were really close to eating at the neighborhood KFC, but luckily found a quick joint where we sat and ate crepes and baguettes with ham and cheese for dinner. We also got a bottle of cabernet for only 4 Euros!

We dragged our tired butts home and decided to rearrange the furniture a bit to fit our needs. We managed to finish unpacking, but since we didn't have new blankets, we went to sleep using our tiny towels as makeshift cover for the night.

these are everywhere here... literally everywhere
